Nature has no waste

Acronym: NoWasteBioTech

Novel Conversion Technologies of Waste Biomass to Food additives and Fine Chemicals

The NoWasteBioTech aims at developing a zero-waste biorefinery concept by using novel fractionation technologies and combining them with thermochemical and bioconversion technologies. Agricultural residues such as corn stover, cotton stalks and barley straw will be fractionated to their three basic constituents, producing three distinct streams which will in turn be converted to food additives and high value specialty chemicals:
economica

Cellulose fraction

The cellulose fraction will be converted to lactic acid and Polysaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)

economica

Hemicellulose fraction

The hemicellulose fraction will be converted to prebiotic bioactive compounds

economica

Lignin fraction

A lignin fraction will be converted to phenol monomers and oligomers
